Excellent food-best UK curry in ages

First time going to this restaurant having become a bit disillusioned with curry places in Basingstoke-and we really loved it. Food was excellent (especially the Pani Poori) and service was nice and friendly. Don’t be put off by the location as it is a bit out of town etc. highly recommended.

Worth a visit.

I went here a couple of weeks ago with some old friends and thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Classic Indian dishes, and some I've never heard of before. Service was good, lively atmosphere, strongly recommended, although if you have a large party, 9 or more, you should book at least 1 week in advance.

Hidden gem of Basingstoke

I was pleasantly surprised to be introduced to this hidden gem in an unexpected corner of Kings Furlong. The food is second to none when it comes to Indian food in Basingstoke, and actually challenges any Indian restaurant that I have been to anywhere. The owner and waiting staff are friendly and attentive, creating a family restaurant atmosphere while serving genuinely world class food.

Probably the best Indian restaurant in the UK!

Six of us went for a meal last night. We'd never eaten there before but gave it a go due to the positive reviews. It is located in an unusual place and you think you may have taken the wrong turn into a housing estate. This actually adds to its charm as you feel like you've discovered a hidden gem. We were greeted quickly and sat down. All the service throughout the night was efficient, polite and professional. The menu is very varied and has plenty of unusual dishes that you don't see on the "usual" curry house menus. Don't come here to see the usual Korma, Madras dishes etc The food was absolutely the star for all of us. My curry (lamb nilgiri) was simply the best curry I have ever had in a restaurant. The food was clearly made with quality ingredients and made to order. It is presented in lovely hammered metal dishes and these do a good job of keeping the food warm as well. Plenty of people mention the price. Yes, these dishes are a bit more expensive than the usual curry restaurants (the main courses are around £13) but the point is this is not a usual curry house and the old adage holds true "you pay for what you get".

Excellent!!

Spices and Spirits catered for my mums 60th birthday party at home. We had about 30 guests and everyone complimented the food! It was absolutely delicious. I cannot recommend them enough. The service was outstanding and very accommodating. There was plenty of food for everyone to take away too. Thank you so much for amazing food and fantastic service! We will definitely be ordering again.

Inspiring Indian!

We were in the area for a short visit from our home in Belgium. This places, Spices and Spirits at Basingstoke was recommended and it most certainly did not disappoint. The staff and owner were all very welcoming and made our visit there that bit more special. But, of course, the food is the main thing and, here, you will be delighted by the sheer quality of the cooking. It is overseen by the owner's wife and she and her team in the kitchen do a great job. It is good, good quality and all with what you might call that "wow" factor - you have to visit to get full appreciation of it all. As the implies, it invokes the real spirit of Indian cuisine. I wish we had Indian restaurants like this in Belgium!
